data-mm-id=”_j6v7puauk”>ESPN First Take analyst Dan Orlovsky is wondering when Lamar Jackson will make his rivalry with Patrick Mahomes more even. On the show Thursday morning, ahead of the teams' opening night clash, Orlovsky said Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens need to prove that they can beat the Kansas City Chiefs.Jackson has faced Mahomes five times in his career, posting a 1-4 record against his AFC counterpart. The two met each year from 2018-2021, with Mahomes winning the first three by three points, five points and 14 points, respectively. Jackson's lone win in the series came in a thriller in Week 2 of the 2021 season when the Ravens scored 12 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to pull off a 36-35 victory. In their one playoff meeting, last season's AFC Championship, Mahomes and the Chiefs eliminated Jackson and the Ravens by a score of 17-10. Orlovsky says something needs to change. .@danorlovsky7 believes the Ravens "have to prove" they can beat the Chiefs in Week 1 ✍️ pic.twitter.com/lBNLZGVzMS— First Take (@FirstTake) September 5, 2024"At some point Peyton Manning had to beat [Tom] Brady," Orlovsky said. "At some point Phillip Rivers had to beat Brady, Big Ben [Roethlisberger] had to beat him… So the Ravens have to prove they can beat the Chiefs." Orlovsky believes they can. A big reason they lost last year's AFC title game, he said, was because their running backs had only eight carries in the game for a total of 27 yards. Baltimore signed Derrick Henry this offseason to take some pressure off of Lamar's running game. "At some point you've gotta get over the hump," Orlovsky said. Thursday night's game will be the first time two quarterbacks with multiple MVP awards under the age of 30 will play each other. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. on NBC and streaming on Peacock.

According to a recent report from Sport, Barcelona are interested in extending the managerial contract of Xavi.
At this moment in time, Xavi’s current contract would keep him at the Nou Camp until 2024. Under the new terms, however, he would extend his stay even further to 2026.
The former midfield maestro took a bit of time to settle upon getting the job but now, he’s thriving in every way imaginable. Barca are sitting pretty in La Liga, they are in the semi-finals of the Copa de Rey, and they are still one of the favourites to win the Europa League.
We all know that things aren’t guaranteed to last forever, especially given the financial difficulties that Barcelona have experienced in years gone by. With that being said, Xavi has a clear passion for this…
Marcus Rashford netted a double as Manchester United earned a 2-1 Premier League win at home to Tottenham on Jose Mourinho s return to Old Trafford.
Spurs had won their three matches across all competitions since Mourinho was appointed as Mauricio Pochettino s replacement last month, but they slipped to defeat on Wednesday after a below-par showing.
Rashford put United ahead and, after a superb individual effort from Dele Alli levelled the scores, the striker converted a penalty to end United s three-game winless run.
Victory moves Ole Gunnar Solskjaer s men above Spurs and into the top six in the table, denying Mourinho sacked by United a year ago the chance to be the first Tottenham manager to win his first three Premier League games in charge.

Chelsea misfit Andriy Shevchenko will join Sampdoria on loan as soon as the Genoa side sort out his wage demands, Italian media reported on Sunday.
Sheva would be happy to join us, but there are problems around his wages, Sampdoria s general manager Beppe Marotta told the Secolo XIX newspaper.
Many top class players like Sampdoria and a deal is entirely plausible.
The Ukrainian, who has scored just nine times in 47 Premier League games for Chelsea, is seen as the man to end Sampdoria s problems in front of goal.
We have a way to resolve our problems upfront with a figure able to stir up the crowd as well as put the ball in the back of the net, said Marotta.
Shevchenko has endured two difficult seasons at Chelsea after moving from AC Milan f…
Gonzalo Higuain does not believe Argentina can take Panama lightly despite Lionel Messi being set to return when they meet in the Copa America Centenario at Soldier Field on Friday.
Panama ran out 2-1 winners in their Group D opener against Bolivia, with Argentina joining them at the top of the group after beating Chile by the same scoreline in a repeat of the 2015 final.
Gerardo Martino s team had to do without talisman Messi as the Barcelona star struggled with a persistent back injury.
The 28-year-old returned to training with his team-mates on Wednesday and having got through another session the following day without any pain, Martino confirmed he would return for the match in Chicago.
It will be a huge boost for Argentina, and Higuain acknowledged th…
Leicester City will have to wait to complete their fairytale Premier League triumph after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Needing a win to be crowned champions with two matches to spare, the magnitude of what Claudio Ranieri s unchanged side was trying to achieve appeared to weigh heavily during a passive start and Anthony Martial capitalised by opening the scoring.
But captain Wes Morgan, one of the symbols of Leicester s unlikely charge, headed a 16th-minute equaliser and the visitors will be disappointment not to have further punished a United side whose set-piece defending was flimsy throughout.
Leicester will emerge as champions at home to Everton next weekend if Tottenham fail to beat Chelsea on Monday, while any victory …
The unacceptable performance of Perth Glory led to the dismissal of Ian Ferguson as coach, owner Tony Sage said on Monday.
Ferguson was dismissed after almost two-and-a-half years in the role he had inherited from David Mitchell, with Australia Under-17 coach and former Glory striker Alistair Edwards appointed as interim coach for the remainder of the season.
Ferguson led the Glory to the 2011/12 A-League Grand Final, but Perth have failed to emulate that form this season and had slumped to the bottom of the table.
A fifth-straight loss on Saturday – to Melbourne Heart – was the final straw, with Sage fronting the press on Monday to confirm reports Ferguson had been sacked and Edwards and assistant Gareth Naven had been appointed.
It was mutually ag…
France defender Adil Rami has no sympathy for suspended England forward Wayne Rooney ahead of their Euro 2012 clash.
Rooney was red-carded in England s qualifier against Montenegro for kicking out at Miodrag Dzudovic.
The Manchester United goalscorer was subsequently handed a two-match ban that rules him out of his side s opening games in Poland and Ukraine.
If Rooney can t play it s his own fault, Valencia centre-back Rami told Goal.com.
He himself looked for it in qualification, and there is no problem for France. We are concentrated on our own job.
The former Lille player insisted that Laurent Blanc s men would not treat the match lightly, despite their opponents being without a number of stars due to physical complaints.

Whether Aston Villa get promoted to Premier League or stay in Championship, Jack Grealish will have a lot of suitors. Villa manager Dean Smith shares that view of his star player.
He loves Aston Villa and he’ll want nothing more than to get promoted with Aston Villa,” Smith said. “If we don’t go up he’ll cost someone a hell of a lot of money if they want to buy him. For me he is committed to Aston Villa and we’ve not even spoken about it otherwise.
Jack has been normal throughout, he said. “It is not about one person or pressure, it s about the team. If players perform as a team you have more chance. Yes, Jack Grealish has got that little bit of brilliance but so have the others. Talking to Jack, he knows that. He has relished being the capt…
Chelsea star Eden Hazard was named the Best Belgian player in a Foreign League for 2017, edging Manchester City s Kevin De Bruyne and Napoli forward Dries Mertens.
Hazard pipped De Bruyne to the gong by 11 votes with 326, while Mertens was 56 votes behind, as Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku finished fourth.
De Bruyne had won the award the past two years and the City playmaker topped the second round of voting, after Mertens won the first round.
However, it was not enough to upstage Hazard at the gala ceremony in Belgium on Wednesday – the 27-year-old receiving the most points overall for his maiden honour in his home country.
My first prize in Belgium and certainly not my last one, Hazard said.
Hazard, however, admitted he would have vo…
